Meet the founder, Nat Le Pla
My fundamental belief is that people are shaped by their experience, and that good therapy can change lives.
I work in a pluralistic way. This means I work with you to understand which therapy suits you and your situation.
I’m an experienced and well-qualified psychotherapist; I have a Degree in Psychology (BSc, Spec. Hons.) and a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Distinction). I have a specialist interest in supporting those who have experienced trauma or adversity in childhood. I find the CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) umbrella useful as it describes many people’s experience without pathologising them. I also work extensively with clients experiencing anxiety, stress and depression.
Over my career I have met many clients with complex presentations such as hearing voices or who have been given a mental health diagnosis. I have a warm and understanding approach helping clients appreciate their experiences as a coping responses to their, often very difficult, life story.
Therapy Huddersfield is the culmination of my career, training and lived experience. I’m proud to be part of this growing service as we continue to support those across the area who face adversity and struggle. I’m particularly pleased that we are now able to offer an affordable service so that the benefits of therapy can be felt throughout the community. In my spare time I like to walk my dog and ride one of my bikes. I have a regular yoga and meditation practice which supports me.
My training includes
I have training in several specialist ways of working. Please see the list below for more information. If you would like to discuss a specific element of therapy, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

CBT has influenced my entire career as a Therapist. I first understood the power of specialised therapy as a teacher working in a behavioural unit. I worked with a research team from Cardiff University to develop and deliver specifically tailored CBT for teenagers. I went on to deepen my knowledge at Salford University as part of my Post Graduate studies and have used CBT in my therapy room ever since.
CBT supports clients to recognise the effects of thoughts. To understand they can influence their emotions and behaviours, that people can feel their lives are stuck because their thoughts dominate their system. I find CBT supports clients to free themselves from rigid, fearful or obsessive thinking allowing them to respond in a more open and present way to their circumstances.
Many neurodiverse clients report finding CBT particularly helpful.

I have been using IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy for over seven years. I was introduced to it by my long term supervisor who is a highly qualified IFS practitioner and specialist IFS supervisor. IFS has allowed me to help and support many clients who have had highly complex childhoods or traumatic life experiences. Trauma can leave us responding to life and relationships with fear and dissociation from our feelings. IFS provides a structure to understand our responses and a pathway to heal. IFS frees people to live their lives. It allows them to come to terms with their life story and how they responded to it, in order to protect themselves.
IFS is an effective trauma therapy and the modality I would usually recommend when supporting those clients with CPTSD.
IFS was developed by Richard Scwartz and his books Introduction to Internal Family Systems and No Bad Parts are very accessible. His website has useful information: Click here to read more.

Richard Erskine has developed the Integrative Therapy model since the 1970s. He continues to teach around the world in 2025, and I’ve completed around 60 hours of in-person training with him. His work has deeply influenced and validated my practice, perhaps more than any other approach. As a former Deputy Head of a specialist school, I saw how pupil behaviour reflected their experiences. We shaped our support accordingly. Richard’s model reinforced this understanding. Healing comes through helping clients explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours by understanding their personal story and meeting them with humanity.
I have attended workshops with Richard on Attachment and Child Development as well as more complex areas such clients who may be diagnosed as having a "Borderline Personality" or "Schizoid" presentations. Always I have found myself informed and empowered to find understanding of, and a path to healing for, these clients.
Further Information about Ricard Erskine and his model of Integrative therapy can be found at The Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy website. Click here to read more.
Please note "Integrative Therapy" is a term that is sometimes used to mean mixing together different types of therapy - this is very different to the Integrative Therapy described here.

I'm a proud member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), which provides structure and accountability in what is an unregulated profession in the UK. Perhaps surprisingly, anyone can call themselves a counsellor, being a member of the BACP acts as a quality mark, indicating I'm properly trained and qualified.
As an Accredited Member, I’ve been through a rigorous assessment process. The BACP describe this as "The Quality Standard for experienced practitioners" This gives clients extra reassurance about my skills and professionalism. I also work within their ethical framework, meaning my choices and approach are always guided by best practice, placing my clients' best interests at the heart of the decision making process.
