  • Understanding Anxiety: How We Can Help

    Anxiety isn’t just about worry—it often has underlying root causes linked to past experiences, self-criticism, or unhelpful thinking patterns. At Therapy Huddersfield, we help clients uncover and make sense of these deeper causes so they don’t have to live with anxiety. 

    One approach we use is Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), which helps reduce self-criticism and build self-compassion. Anxiety activates the brain’s threat system, keeping people stuck in cycles of fear and avoidance. CFT works by engaging the soothing system, allowing clients to feel safer and more in control.  

    By exploring anxiety’s roots and learning practical coping strategies, clients gain a deeper understanding of their emotions and develop lasting resilience.   • At Therapy Huddersfield, we understand that OCD is a coping mechanism, developed to manage deep-seated fears or distress. While compulsions provide temporary relief, they reinforce anxiety. We help clients explore the underlying reasons behind their OCD and how it’s trying to help them.  

    One effective approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), particularly Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). This method gently exposes clients to their fears while reducing compulsions, breaking the anxiety cycle. We also use Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to address self-criticism and build emotional resilience.  

    Our therapists provide a safe, supportive space to help clients grow in understanding, supporting them to develop healthier coping strategies. OCD does not need to define you— change is possible.

  • At Therapy Huddersfield, we offer specialist addiction support for drug, alcohol, and gambling addictions. Our team includes highly qualified therapists; one having previously worked as a nurse on rehab hospital wards and another with lived addiction experience. We provide initial support for withdrawal and sobriety management, as well as long-term therapy to explore the underlying causes of addiction. Our compassionate approach helps clients understand the root of their struggles and work towards lasting recovery with ongoing support.  

  • At Therapy Huddersfield, we provide support for young people from age 6 to 18. We specialise in supporting children and young people through the most difficult and complex life experiences. Our therapists are highly skilled in building trusting relationships and are specially trained to support those with Autism or ADHD. Using a range of approaches such as play therapy and art therapy, we help young people and teenagers express themselves in a safe, supportive environment. Therapy helps them process emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies, supporting their emotional well-being and personal growth. 

  • At Therapy Huddersfield, we welcome clients experiencing complex presentations such as hearing voices or those diagnosed with conditions like Bipolar Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder. Our principles are non-pathologising and holistic, meaning we don’t view these experiences as something "wrong" with you. Instead, we focus on understanding your story, recognizing that these presentations often arise as responses to difficult or traumatic experiences. We believe that by understanding them in this way, healing can occur.
